Hoffman Receives Friend of Agriculture Award, Applauds Executive Order to Allow Dyed Diesel, Relieve Fuel Costs

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Reflecting his support for the state’s agricultural industry, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, has been recognized by the Illinois Farm Bureau with a “Friend of Agriculture” award.

“I’m honored to receive this award, and am appreciative of the advocacy and partnership from local farmers as we look to strengthen and support this critical industry,” Hoffman said. “It was also great to receive it at Eckert’s Belleville Farm, where many families in our community are able to connect firsthand with agriculture.”

The Friend of Agriculture award is presented to lawmakers who possess a strong voting record on agricultural and economic issues, and reflects Hoffman’s relationships and commitment to local members of the industry.

It comes as the state looks to further assist farmers as concerns rise about high fuel costs. This week the governor issued a disaster proclamation and executive order allowing on-road use of dyed diesel.

“Allowing on-road use of dyed diesel will provide needed relief for local farmers during this harvest season,” Hoffman said. “From running machinery to transporting crops, high diesel costs can have a disproportionate impact on our agricultural industry. This executive order is helpful, and we should continue to look at ways to maximize relief and support for our farmers.”
