Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Lunsford Announce $900,000 for the EquiCenter in Honeoye Falls

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour with Assemblymember Jen Lunsford, visiting the EquiCenter in Honeoye Falls and announcing a total of $900,000 in funding to support needed upgrades.

“The EquiCenter goes above and beyond to connect the local community, especially individuals and youth living with disabilities, with the therapeutic power of nature and animals,” said Speaker Heastie. “It was great to be here today with Assemblymember Lunsford to learn about all they have to offer through horses, horticulture and other outdoor programs. I know this investment will ensure that the EquiCenter can continue to have a positive impact on so many for years to come.”

“The EquiCenter in Honeoye Falls offers a wide range of unique and important therapeutic experiences to people of all ages throughout the community, and I will always work hard to ensure community assets like these to have the resources they need,” said Assemblymember Lunsford. “I was proud to show this incredible nonprofit organization to Speaker Heastie and to see all it has done for the members of the community, especially those living with disabilities.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Lunsford were joined by members of the EquiCenter board to visit the organization’s facilities. Together, they announced a total of $900,000 to support the organization’s upgrades, including $500,000 for the construction of a permanent, semi climate-controlled structure as well as $400,000 for operating the center. The EquiCenter is a nonprofit organization that serves people of all ages and abilities, particularly those with disabilities, through the power of horses, horticulture and nature-based experiences. The organization began their operations in 2004 with the Adaptive Riding Program for children with disabilities and have since expanded their services to include therapeutic horse horticulture, farm-to-table cooking classes, mustang gentling, and other nature-based educational programs.
